
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Police in Oakland shot and killed an allegedly armed suspect on Monday afternoon in the city's Fruitvale neighborhood, authorities said.
The shooting happened just after 2 p.m. in the 4000 block of International Boulevard, where the California Highway Patrol had called for assistance, according to the Oakland Police Department.
Officers located the suspect, who they said didn't comply with commands but allegedly lunged at officers with a weapon, police said.

Officers used both less-lethal and lethal force, fatally striking the suspect. The officers attempted life-saving measures, but the suspect died at the scene.
Police didn't release the suspect's name or describe the alleged weapon.
In a brief press conference near the scene on Monday afternoon, Police Chief James Beere said no officers were injured.
